Challenge
Doctors, residents, and medical students working with ophthalmology lacked an accessible, centralized reference for eye diseases, conditions, and treatments. Existing resources were fragmented across textbooks, academic papers, and multiple platforms, making it difficult to quickly access accurate information during clinical decision-making or study. The challenge was to design a tool that could serve both as a reliable educational resource and an intuitive clinical reference tailored for the needs of diverse users in the medical field.
Approach
I collaborated closely with two ophthalmologists who envisioned a comprehensive eye disease encyclopedia that could evolve with medical advances. Starting with user research and clinical workflows, we defined distinct needs for two core user groups:
Practitioners and learners (doctors, residents, students) who require fast, trustworthy content;
Administrators (subject matter experts) who curate and expand the database.
Note: This project was discontinued due to advancements in Artificial Intelligence.
Design Process
The design process focused on clarity, structure, and usability:
Crafted a visual identity that reflected precision and trustworthiness appropriate for a medical audience.
Designed a scalable platform where disease entries, symptoms, and treatments are easy to browse, search, and compare.
Established UX patterns that support both quick look-ups and deeper learning, without overwhelming users.
Created admin workflows that empower specialists to maintain and expand content effectively.
